Me and a mountain bike

I am an absolute hero! I just got home from a mountain bike day in the Dandenongs with the Cogsgirls. If I'd known what they were going to throw at us I wouldn't have slept soundly all week.

Dandenongs = beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous this time of year. Instruction from the fellows from Bike Now was amazing. So supportive. Everyone looked after and amazingly encouraging. I am so so glad I went and so proud of myself for overcoming my fears. It is so much more physically taxing than road riding and I really didn't expect it to be that much harder. Huge breakfast, shower and I'm in my pyjamas already and on the couch watching the footy. Brilliant day! Toodle Pip!

My fabric stash is rapidly turning into shirts. I'm enjoying myself tremendously. Here's the latest. Made to a forties pattern I didn't know I had but with a ration book busting 4 inches added to the bottom! I want my tucked in shirts to stay tucked in! I'm a big fan of the sleeve cuffs and might do a summer shirt with contrasting collar and cuffs. Looking funny because it's a selfie and I was distracted by a cat. Land Army Girl style earth tones are on the cards this autumn and winter and it's all coming along nicely. - Toodle Pip!

My new Heyday Vintage gab jacket. It's hanging a bit oddly about the shoulders because I just dragged my satchel off. It really does sit well! It's wool, lined and super toasty. Which is good because I was freezing this morning!

Dungaree Dolly

Meet my new Freddie's of Pinewood Dungaree Dolly's! I am so in love with them.

I never want to take them off! The fit's not perfect - I wish they were a bit more generous with their waist to hip ratio. I had to go up a size for the hips which has left them a bit loose around the waist. I think they'd be a complete pain to take in too so I'll live with it. And before you ask, going to the toilet is a bit of a kerfuffle! But way easier than dealing with a girdle so I can be zen about that. And drink less tea.

Remembered the lippy!

Little Jens! Isn't he a big monkey these days? He's all legs and tail.

My Victory Garden! With little Dita (she's much smaller than Jens - she's all scrumptious belly!). Garden doesn't photograph as magnificently as it looks! There's sage, chives, thyme, tarragon, bergamot, acres of parsley, nasturtiums, Vietnamese mint, jasmine, some stray pumpkiny things that I think have sprung up from the compost and unidentified grey leaf plants. I'm hoping to get garlic in next week and maybe some broad beans - though that could just be possum food.

George! Doesn't mind the kittens so much these days. But is still a bit grumpy. They all sleep in the bedroom at night so that's progress!

Eric Ravilious

My latest obsession is British artist Eric Ravilious. He was active during the 30s and 40s, dying tragically young during WW2 during his time as a war artist. He painted images of Sussex and the English countryside...

Images of the soon to vanish High Street...

Images of war...

And crockery for Wedgewood...

You can buy limited edition fine art prints for hundreds of pounds. Or you can say hello Inter Library Loans, colour photocopier and ikea frames! Going to put some up in my bedroom. Toodle Pip!

I finally summoned the nerve to cut out my appliqué. And just as I was almost finished Jens came barreling in and charged into me. I yelled a bit and when I went to examine the damage the piece literally fell apart in front of me. Just disintegrated as the fabric was that fine. I am devastated. It's in the bin now. Dear me. - Toodle Pip!

I'm a Brownie!

How much brown fabric does a girl need? Probably not as much as I have! The fabric store in Fitzroy was having a sale so I nipped over to see what they had. They usually have a good selection of ex designer wools. And anything chocolate brown was half priced for Easter. I bought some lovely brown wools for two skirts and some silk that's going to drape beautifully for wide legged trousers. Not sure about the trousers as Heyday Vintage do some that fit me perfectly but hey, it's a challenge. I've got a few patterns and I think I'll adjust them to the same fitting as my Heydays so it should work out just fine. I think. I also checked out their range of fake furs - this year the fur cape is going to happen! The girls in the store were lovely and opened boxes of new stuff so I could see what had just come in. How's that for service!

Then I popped in to L'Uccello to pick up buttons for the WAD. That's the goldy ones above. Hard to see but they're leaves and berries - close enough to oak leaves! The WAD has stalled slightly as I've been too scared for the next step. At each stage there's a huge hurdle to overcome so I need a bit of thinking - and nerve steeling - time. Finally bit the bullet and cut it out. After re drafting the back bodice for a non period finish but one I'm much happier with. If it works. I had been really worried I didn't have enough fabric! But it's all good. I also spent some time on a secret project! It's early days so more details later! Very exciting! - Toodle Pip!

Land Army Girl

I'm feeling all land girly as autumn creeps in. Even though I didn't really get to pick up some browny fabrics I'm still hopeful. I'm thinking brown tweeds and sensible shoes, woolly cable socks and pullovers.
